Removal Procedure
Personal injury or death can result from grease under pressure.Grease coming out of the relief valve under pressure can penetrate the body causing injury or death.Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened.Loosen the relief valve one turn only.If track does not loosen, close the relief valve and contact your Caterpillar dealer.

Elevate the machine by using the boom, as shown above. Block the machine with support blocks at the indicated location. The tracks cannot be in contact with the ground.

Remove two bolts (1) and washers from the panel. Remove panel (2) from the undercarriage frame.

Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7296, "Track Adjustment - Inspect/Adjust" when you are attempting to adjust the track.
Loosen grease fitting (3) carefully until the track begins to loosen. One turn should be the maximum. When the track tension is fully released, grease fitting (3) should be tightened. Tighten the grease fitting to a torque of 34 N m (25 lb ft).

Remove track (4) with a suitable lifting strap and a prybar from the undercarriage frame. Weight of the track is 125 kg (275 lb).
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the track on the other side of the machine.Installation Procedure

Note: Make sure that the hydraulic track adjuster is in the fully retracted position for easier installation of the track.

Install track (4) to the sprocket first for easy installation.

Install panel (2) to the undercarriage frame with washers and two bolts (1) .

Raise the machine with the boom and remove the blocks, as shown above. Lower the machine to the ground.
Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the track on the other side of the machine.
