Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Lower the scraper bowl to the ground and engage the parking brake. Chock the wheels in order to prevent the machine from moving.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fuel system.

Use Tooling (A) to remove filter assembly (1) from fuel filter base (2) .

Loosen retaining nut (3) . Disconnect tube (4) from fuel filter base (2) . If necessary, loosen retaining nut (5) in order to move tube (4) from the fuel filter base.
Loosen retaining nut (6) . Disconnect tube (7) from fuel filter base (2) . If necessary, loosen retaining nut (8) in order to move tube (7) from the fuel filter base.

Remove two bolts (9) and the washers that secure fuel filter base (2) to the hydraulic tank. Remove the fuel filter base from the machine.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Position the fuel filter base to the hydraulic tank. Install two bolts (9) and the washers that secure fuel filter base (2) to the hydraulic tank.

If necessary, loosen retaining nut (8) in order to move tube (7) to the fuel filter base. Connect tube (7) to fuel filter base (2) . Tighten retaining nut (6) . Tighten retaining nut (8) .
If necessary, loosen retaining nut (5) in order to move tube (4) to the fuel filter base. Connect tube (4) to fuel filter base (2) . Tighten retaining nut (3) . Tighten retaining nut (5) . Coat the threaded adapter for the fuel filter with 7M-7456 thread sealant .

Use Tooling (A) to install filter assembly (1) to fuel filter base (2) . Tighten the filter to 70 15 N m (52 11 lb ft) .
