Information:

The initial settings are only suggestions. The actual settings may vary depending on the manufacturer of the magnet. The type of magnet as well as the material type and consistency will also change the setting. Generally, for the larger magnets, the dial setting is higher. Usually, the range switch should be in the OFF setting for magnets 1676 mm (66 inch) and smaller. This switch should only be turned to the ON position when a clean drop cannot be achieved at any dial setting in the OFF position. Normally the ON setting will only be necessary with 1829 mm (72 inch) and larger magnets.1. Check the "DROP" input. When the drop rocker switch is depressed, there should be 25-28 VDC at terminal "118"(+) and "102C(-). The PLC input "I/5" should be on. If the voltage is not correct, check the cables to the joystick.Symptom: The scrap does not drop cleanly.1. Adjust the drop time by rotating the selector switch. The selector switch is located on the monitor panel.2. During the drop time, check for negative field voltage at terminal "102D"(-) and "101D"(+). If there is no negative field voltage, check "SSR172" and "SSR173". "SSR172" and "SSR173" should be energized during the drop time. If there is a signal from output "O/5" of the PLC, but no negative voltage, replace "SSR172" and "SSR173".Fault Indicator Descriptions
SYSTEM OPERATES AT 230 VOLTS DC. EXTREME CAUTION SHOULD BE TAKEN WHILE MEASURING THE VOLTAGE.
Volts Fault:An indication of Over or Under Voltage Fault indicates that the voltage for the magnet is out of range for proper operation.Measure the voltage of the magnet at terminals "PDB151" and "PDB152" during the lifting. Measure the voltage at least three seconds after the lift switch is depressed. The voltage should be between 200 and 250 VDC.If the voltage of the magnet is out of range, proceed with the following steps:1. Check the field voltage at terminals "101C" and "102D". The voltage should be between 25 and 28 VDC.a. If the field voltage is out of range, check the voltage regulator and the charging system of the machine.b. If the field voltage is normal, check the generator speed. The speed of the generator speed should be 1800 50 RPM. If the generator is not turning at the correct speed, refer to the hydraulic section for instructions.2. Check the Voltage Boost Relay ("CR169"). The "CR169" should open 3 seconds after the lift rocker switch is depressed. There should be a voltage drop across "R101". Measure the voltage drop between "101C" and "101D".If the voltage is within range, proceed with the following steps:1. Check the setting on "VBM151". The setting should be the following conditions:* UNDER=200* OVER=2602. If the settings are correct, check "CR168". "CR168" should be energized for 1.5 seconds. This is nine seconds after the lift switch is depressed. During the 1.5 seconds, the voltage at terminals 2 and 7 of the voltage band monitor should be within the range. If the voltage is not within the range, the
