Component Code: 1273SUBJECT: LOW ENGINE POWER MAY BE CAUSED BY A BREATHER MALFUNCTION IN THE NON-METALLIC FUEL CAP
PROBLEM: Machines that do not include the Fast Fill fuel system may have been produced by a non-metallic 123-6305 Fuel Cap Assembly. The breather in the non-metallic fuel cap assembly can malfunction and generate negative pressure in the fuel tank. This can reduce engine power. Removing the fuel cap from a tank that is under negative pressure may disturb any dirt that is around the fuel tank cap. Dirt can then be pulled into the fuel tank when the cap is removed.
SOLUTION: Remove the non-metallic 123-6305 Fuel Cap Assembly and install a metallic 7X-7700 Fuel Cap Assembly. The 123-6305 Fuel Cap Assembly has been discontinued.
The 9X-2205 Cap Filter Kit and the 9X-8600 O-ring Seal are available to service the 7X-7700 Fuel Cap Assembly. It is recommended to service the fuel cap with a new seal and filter kit every 500 service hours or three months. Regular maintenance intervals will ensure optimum component performance.
The Fast Fill attachment uses a separate vent assembly and requires the use of a non-vented cap. The current non-vented cap is 101-8909, which is similar in materials and construction to the 7X-7700 vented cap.
