Information:
Introduction
This Special Instruction outlines the procedures necessary to check that the steering stops are contacting the engine frame before the cylinder fully extends. When articulating the machine in either direction, the cylinders may extend fully before hitting the stops. This movement can cause the rod bolts to loosen and back off on the piston joint. Do not perform any of the procedures outlined in this Special Instruction until you have read and understand the directions contained in this publication.Safety Section
Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.
Stay back a safe distance. No clearance for a person in this area when the machine turns. Severe injury or death from crushing could occur.

Move the steering frame lock to the Stored position.Note: Before performing the next series of steps, be sure that all personnel are a safe distance from the machine and in sight of the operator.
Start the engine and raise the bucket to a height of approximately 300 mm (11.8 inch) from the ground.
Disengage the parking brake.
Slowly turn the loader frame all the way to the left or right.
Check to see if there is contact between the steering stops. The steering stops should make contact before the steering rod is fully extended. If, the stops do not make contact the steering rod is bottoming out and the stop should be built up.

Measure the gap between the stops and add approximately 6 mm (0.24 inch) (1/4 inch). This gap is the thickness that should be added to the stops on
