Start engine and run at low idle approximately 5 minutes. Inspect for leaks. 12. Stop engine. Measure oil level. Add oil as necessary. 13. Close and secure access door.(14)Swing Drive
Access to level-fill plug is gained through front of upper structure, behind boom. 1. Remove level-fill plug. 2. Maintain oil level 1 inch (2 cm) below plug opening. Add oil if necessary.3. Install level-fill plug.(15)Fan And Alternator Belts
Remove the rear center upper panel. Inspect the condition and adjustment of belts. Replace both belts if a belt is cracked or frayed. Adjust as necessary. Apply 25 lbs. (110 N) force midway between pulleys. Belts should deflect 9/16 to 13/16 inches (14 to 20 mm). Adjust if necessary. To Adjust:
1. Loosen alternator mounting bolts. 2. Move alternator as required to tighten or loosen belts. Tighten mounting bolts.3. Install panel.(16)Fan Bearing
Lubricate 1 fitting.(17)Air Conditioner
1. Start engine. Allow to warm. When engine is warm, increase speed to high idle. 2. Set air conditioner controls to MAX. COLD with blower on HIGH. Allow 2 minutes for system to stabilize. 3. Remove plug on condenser and observe sight glass under plug. If bubbles appear in sight glass, turn air conditioner off. 4. If no bubbles are present, unlatch and open left rear access door to gain access to compressor. 5. Feel the suction line (A) and the discharge line (B) at the compressor.6. If the discharge line is not warmer than the suction line, or poor cooling is experienced, have your Caterpillar dealer service the air conditioning system.Compressor Belt
