Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the machine in order to warm the transmission oil.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the bucket to the ground and apply slight downward pressure. Engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

(1) Transmission drain plug
(2) Transmission drain valve
Remove transmission drain plug (1) from transmission drain valve (2) in the bottom of the transfer gear case. Attach a hose to an oil drain coupling. Install the threaded end of the coupling into the drain valve in order to unseat the internal drain valve. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Note: The drain valve is an ecology drain valve.

(3) Transmission magnetic screen assembly
The transmission magnetic screen is located on the left-hand side of the transfer gear case. The screen may be accessed through the left-hand side of the rear frame, as shown. Use the following procedure to clean the transmission magnetic screen:
Do not drop or rap the magnets against any hard objects. Replace any damaged magnets.

(4) Cover retaining bolts and washers
(5) Cover assembly
(6) O-ring seal
(7) Screen assembly
(8) Magnetic tube assembly
(9) Magnetic screen housing
(10) Magnet
(11) Magnet tube
Remove cover retaining bolts and washers (4). Remove cover assembly (5) and o-ring seal (6).
Remove screen assembly (7) and magnet tube assembly (8).
Wash the screen assembly and the magnet tube assembly
