Introduction
This information addresses problems with leaking torque converters. This article can help a technician diagnose problems with the housing assembly. The technician will be informed on the proper steps in order to address the problem.Problem
The 245-1735 Torque Converter Group is leaking into the interface of the transmission and engine. This should be a dry compartment. A limited number of 164-6162 Housing Assemblies have problems with porosity. The problems with porosity cannot be determined by visual inspection. The housing assemblies must be tested under pressure with a submersion tank or mass decay methods. This failure occurs within the first 350 hours of operation. The affected Torque Converter Groups include (S/N: T1K2600-3135).Solution
If the machine has not been put into service yet, remove the plug at the bottom of the 245-1735 Torque Converter Group during predelivery inspection (PDI). Check for oil leakage. If the machine leaks within the first 350 hours of operation, there is a high probability that the 164-6162 Housing Assembly needs to be replaced. Note: If the area is dry at the predelivery inspection, this will not guarantee that the leak does not exist.
