Machine Preparation
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the adjustment procedure, clean the exterior of the component thoroughly. Cleaning the exterior will help to prevent an inaccurate adjustment.
Operate the machine in order to obtain normal operating temperature.
Move the machine to a hard level surface away from operating machines and away from personnel.
Engage the parking brake. Place wheel blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
Stop the engine.
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".Governor Actuator Adjustment
Note: Two personnel are required in order to perform the adjustment procedure.Low Idle Adjustment

Disconnect adjustable linkage (1) from lever (3) .
Ensure bolt (4) is located in the second hole from the bottom of actuator lever (2) .

Turn lock nut (5) counterclockwise 2-3 turns.

Have the machine operator start the engine and set Caterpillar Monitoring System (CMS) display area (7) to tachometer mode. Refer to Systems Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, "Modes of Operation".Note: Ensure that the throttle control pedal is released during the low idle adjustment procedure.
Adjust low idle adjustment screw (6) in order to obtain 700 10 rpm on display area (7). Refer to Illustration 2 and Illustration 3.
Tighten lock nut (5). Refer to Illustration 2.
Recheck low idle rpm on display area (7). Refer to Illustration 3.
If the rpm setting is correct, stop the engine. If the rpm is incorrect, repeat Step 3 through Step 8.Linkage Adjustment.

While applying light pressure in the direction indicated by the arrow in Illustration 5, adjust linkage (2) in order for pin (3) to be easily installed. Refer to Illustration 5 and Illustration 6.
Install a split pin in pin (3) and tighten lock nut (1). Refer to Illustration 6.High Idle - Check

Start the engine and set Caterpillar Monitoring System (CMS) display area (1) to tachometer mode. Refer to Systems Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, "Modes of Operation".

Typical example
Depress throttle control pedal (2) in order to increase engine speed to high idle.
Record high idle rpm from Caterpillar Monitoring System (CMS) display area (1). High idle rpm should be 2320 50 rpm.Note: High idle rpm is factory set.Governor Actuator - Check
Have the machine operator start the engine and depress and release the throttle control pedal 3-4 times.

Mounting plate (1) and governor actuator (2) should not bend or move if the linkage adjustment is correct.
If bending or movement of mounting plate (1) or governor actuator (2) is observed, repeat ""Linkage Adjustment."".
