137-9822 Sonic Material Height Sensor
The following is a procedure for tesitng 137-9822 material height sonic sensors for proper performance in the field.
1. Perform a visual inspection of the sonic sensor and the coil cable verifying the following statements.Equipment Required: 1 - 146-4080 Caterpillar mutli-meter or a 9U-7330 Fluke 87 multi-meter.1 - 7X-1708 Spoon Probe1 - 7X-1709 Spoon Probe
Refer to the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SCHEMATIC, MEDIA NUMBER KENR3518, in the AP-1055B & BG-2455C ASPHALT PAVERS Service Manual.
Test Procedure
1. Perform a visual inspection of the sonic sensor and the coil cable verifying the following statements....The connections are clean and tight....The surface of the transducer is not damaged, scratched etc....The sensor is positioned properly in accordance to the material.2. Connect the digital multi-meter to the Feeder Control MPC-10 by placing the 7X-1708 spoon probe into pin 27 (936 WH) and placing the 7X-1709 spoon probe into common ground pin 39 (201 GR).3. Remove the left 137-9822 sonic sensor from the mounting bracket. Leaving the sensor connected to the coil cord and move the sensor to a level area 3 to 4 feet away from the machine.4. Make sure the parking brake is set and turn the key to the on position. Place the conveyor and auger control switches in the automatic position. Place the travel speed switch to the pave position and move the propel lever forward.5. Set the digital multi-meter to read duty cycle. For the Fluke 87 multi-meter set the dial to VDC and press the Hz button twice. For the 146-4080 multi-meter set the dial to DUTY, and confirm the range is positive by pressing the range button until an arrow appears on the right side of the screen. 6. Place the sonic sensor in a perpendicular position relative to the ground at a height of 8 inches from the bottom of the sensor to the ground. The digital multi-meter should provide a 5% duty cycle reading. Slowly raise the sensor in
