Information:

START BY:a. separate transmission, torque converter and transfer gears. 1. Remove allen plugs (3), and drain the oil from the torque converter.2. Remove bolts (1), and remove spider gear (2) from the torque converter. 3. Remove lockring (5) and spacer (6) from shaft (4). 4. Use a brass drift, and drive shaft (4) out of bearing (8) until spiral lockring (7) can be removed.5. Remove bearing (8) and spiral lockring (7) from the housing assembly. 6. Remove seal ring (9) from the lower portion of shaft (4). After removal of the seal ring, remove shaft (4) out the top of the housing assembly. 7. Remove four bolts (10) that fasten carrier (11) to the housing assembly. Use a soft rubber hammer, and tap evenly around carrier (11) until it is free of the spring pins and housing assembly (12). The spring pins may stay in the carrier or the housing after removal of the carrier. 8. Remove carrier (11) from the housing assembly. Remove seal ring (15) from the carrier.9. Remove bolts (14) that fasten gear (13) to the housing assembly. 10. Use two 5/16"-18 NC forcing screws, and remove gear (13) from the housing assembly. 11. Use tooling (A), and remove bearing (16) from housing assembly (12). 12. Remove lockring (17) from the housing assembly.Assemble Torque Converter (3F/3R)
1. Install lockring (1) on the housing assembly. Be sure the notch in bearing (2) is up when the bearing is installed.2. Install bearing (2) into the housing assembly. Use a soft rubber hammer, and tap evenly around the bearing until it is about half way into the housing. 3. Put gear (3) in position over the bearing. Install bolts (4) as far as they will go by hand.4. Use a soft rubber hammer, and tap on gear (3) evenly. Tighten bolts (4) evenly until gear (3) makes contact with the housing assembly. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 30 5 N m (22 4 lb.ft.). 5. Be sure two spring pins (5) are installed in the housing assembly or carrier (7).6. Install seal ring (6) into carrier (7). Be sure the hooks in the ends of seal ring (6) are engaged. Lubricate seal ring (6) with clean transmission oil. 7. Put carrier (7) in position in the housing assembly. Install bolts (8), and tighten them evenly. This will push bearing (2) (installed in step 2) the remainder of the way on the housing assembly. When carrier (7) makes contact with the housing assembly at location (X), tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb.ft.). 8. Turn the torque converter over, and put it on blocks tall enough to install shaft (10).9. Install shaft (10) through the torque converter. Install spiral lockring (9) into the housing assembly.10. Install seal ring (11) on the lower part of shaft (10). Be sure the hooks in the ends of seal ring (11) are engaged. Lubricate the seal ring with clean transmission oil.
