Schematic of the "Boom Cylinder Regeneration" solenoid
This diagnostic code is associated with the "Boom Cylinder Regeneration" solenoid. The FMI 03 diagnostic code means that the Machine ECM has determined that the voltage of the solenoid circuit is above normal. The possible causes of the diagnostic code are listed below:
The solenoid has failed.
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to the +battery circuit.
The backup diode has failed.
The "Backup EPR Valve" switch has failed.
The ECM has failed. A failure of the Machine ECM is unlikely.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2103 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.System Response:The diagnostic code of CID 2103 FMI 03 will be logged in the internal memory of the Machine ECM.Test Step 1. CHECK THE CONTINUITY OF THE BACKUP DIODE
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect wire Y755-GY(Grey) and wire P725-PK(Pink) from "Backup Diode 9".
At connector pin 1 and connector pin 2 of "Backup Diode 9", check the resistance of the diode. In order to check the diode, use a multimeter that has a function for checking diodes.
Reverse the position of the probes of the multimeter and check the diode again. Expected Result:The readout of the meter should indicate a voltage of 0.5 VDC to 0.8 VDC in one position. The readout should read “OUCH (open circuit)” when the position of the probes is in the opposite position. Results:
OK - The diode is working properly. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The diode has failed the test that is described above.Repair: Follow the schematic in order to install the new diode. Follow the process that is described above in order to check the continuity of the diode prior to installation.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT TO THE +BATTERY CIRCUIT.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from contact J2-13 (wire Y755-GY(Grey)) to all contacts that are used in the machine harness connectors for the ECM. Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - Each resistance measurement is not greater than 5000 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between J2-13 (Y755-GY(Grey) or P725-PK(Pink)) and the circuit that has a low resistance measurement. Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE "BACKUP EPR VALVE" SWITCH.
Remove the "Backup EPR Valve" switch from the wiring harness.
Place a jumper wire across pin 4 and pin 5 of the connector for the "Backup EPR Valve" switch.
Remove the
