Use steel wool in order to remove the deposits and corrosion from shaft (6). Note: Do not use sandpaper that will leave visible scratches on the pump shaft.
Inspect the carbon seal's area of the shaft. Replace the shaft only if pitting and corrosion in this area can provide a path for the coolant to flow between the rubber and the pump shaft. A shiny surface in this area on the pump shaft indicates that the carbon seal has been spinning on the shaft. Use a fine grit sandpaper on the polished area before you install the new seal.
Use Tooling (C) in order to clean shaft (6) and the seal counterbore in the housing.
Put clean water on the O-ring of ceramic seal (9). Use Tooling (B) in order to seat the ceramic seal in the housing. Install the ceramic ring with the smooth face toward the carbon seal.
Immerse carbon seal (8) in clean water. Install carbon seal (8) on shaft (6). Use Tooling (A) in order to push the carbon seal on the shaft . Push the carbon seal until the face contacts the face of the ceramic seal.
Put spring (7) in position on shaft (6).
Put impeller (3) in position on the shaft. Install bolt (4) and washer (5).
Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 360 50 N m (265 35 lb ft). Hit the head of the bolt with a hammer. Tighten the bolt again. Repeat the procedure until there is no change in the torque.
Install a new O-ring seal (2) on the housing. Put liquid soap on the O-ring seal.
Install housing (1) on the water pump. Ensure that the housing is properly oriented.
Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. Refer to the Operations And Maintenance Manual.

Install elbow (1), bolts (2), and bolts (3).
Install tube (6), bolts (5), and bolts (4).
Fill the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.
