Remove the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Torque Converter - Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to torque converter (1). The weight of torque converter (1) is approximately 125 kg (275 lb). Place torque converter (1) on suitable cribbing.

Remove bolts (2) and plate assembly (3) .

Remove bolts (4). Use Tooling (B) in order to remove pilot (5) .

Remove retainer (6). Remove O-ring seal (7) .

Remove ring (8) from retainer (6) .

Remove O-ring seal (9). Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to housing assembly (10). The weight of housing assembly (10) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb). Remove bolts (11) and housing assembly (10) .

Remove ring (13). Use Tooling (C) in order to remove bearing (12) .

Remove ring (14) from piston (15). Remove piston (15). Remove O-ring seal (16) .

Remove bolts (17), coupling assembly (18), and race (19) .

Remove plates and discs (20). Remove bearing (21) .Note: Mark the sequence of plates and discs (20) for installation purposes.

Use Tooling (D) in order to remove plate (22) .

Remove O-ring seal (23). Remove race (24). Use Tooling (D) in order to remove plate (25) .

Remove dowels (27) and O-ring seal (28) from impeller (26). Remove turbine (29) .

Use two people to reposition impeller (26). The weight of impeller (26) is approximately 31 kg (70 lb). Remove retaining ring (34). Remove impeller (26) from carrier (33) .Note: Make sure that carrier (33) is supported before removing retaining ring (34) .

Remove race (35), bolts (36), and impeller (26) from adapter (38) (not shown). Remove hub (37) .

Remove O-ring seal (39) from adapter (38) .

Remove bearing (40). Remove carrier (33) from stator (41) .

Remove bearing (42), rollers (43), and springs (44). Remove retaining ring (45) and plate (46) .

Reposition stator (41). Remove retaining ring (47) and plate (48) .

Use a suitable press and Tooling (C) in order to remove cam (49) from stator (41). Once cam (49) is removed, remove retaining ring (50) .Note: Mark orientation of cam for assembly purposes.
