Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the aftercooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Aftercooler - Remove". Note: The procedure for the disassembly of the front aftercooler and the rear aftercooler is similar. Only the front aftercooler is shown.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Remove pipes (1) from the aftercooler.
Remove the bolts and elbow (5) from the aftercooler.
Remove tubes (4) and tubes (7) from the front aftercooler. Remove the O-ring seals from the tubes.
Remove adapters (8) and adapters (9) from the aftercooler housings. Remove the O-ring seals from the adapters.
Remove spacer (2) and the gasket from the cover.
Attach a suitable lifting device to cover (10). The weight of cover (10) is approximately 45 kg (100 lb). Remove the bolts that hold cover (10) to aftercooler housing (6) and remove the cover.
Attach a suitable lifting device to core assembly (3). The weight of core assembly (3) is approximately 104 kg (230 lb). Remove core assembly (3) from the aftercooler housing.
