This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS4208" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the September 17, 1997 (Revised December 1997) Service Letter. Changes have been made to the TERMINATION DATE.

The cross over battery cable on certain 12H, 140H, 143H, 160H, and 163H Motor Graders may contact the throttle cable going to the governor control housing and eventually rub through the covering and cause a short. This problem can occur on machines with standard batteries or those with heavy duty batteries after machines have accumulated considerable service hours, 1500-2500.

On non-AWD machines with standard batteries disconnect the 8W3630 Battery Cable from the right hand battery and remove the clip from the inner boss on fuel tank. Re-route the cable behind the throttle cable and replace the 9M8406 clip with a 4S1936 Clip. See Illustration Routing for standard battery.
On 143H All Wheel Drive models with "standard" batteries disconnect the cable from right hand battery and remove the 9M8406 Clip from inner boss on fuel tank. Re-route the cable behind the throttle cable and replace the 9M8406 Clip with a 4S1936 Clip.
On all other machines with "heavy duty" batteries, disconnect the cross over battery cable from the negative battery post on right hand battery and remove the 9M8406 Clip from the inner boss on fuel tank near the rear of engine. Re-route the cable behind the throttle cable and move the clip to the outer boss on fuel tank where the flood light wire harness is clipped, which is just to the left of the fuel shut-off valve.
When re-routing make sure the battery cable will clear the fuel tank shut off handle when it is turned to off position. While doing re-routing, inspect the battery cable for damage caused from rubbing. If the battery cable is badly damaged then it should be replaced. Order these only if cable is found to be badly damaged.
Machines with standard batteries - Order a 8W3630 Cable.
Machines with heavy duty batteries - Order a 115-9457 Cable.
Service Claim Allowances
This is a 1-hour job to inspect and reroute. If the battery cable needs to be replaced, one additonal hour will be allowed.
