Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Close the fuel shutoff valve.

Open drain valves (1) and (2) on filter base (3) .
Open drain valve (4) on bowl assembly (5). Drain fuel into a suitable container.

Disconnect hose assembly (6) from base assembly (7) .
Remove hose (8).

Remove hose (9) .
Disconnect harness assemblies (10) and (11) .

Remove bolts (12). Remove base assembly (7) .Installation Procedure

Install base assembly (7). Install bolts (12).

Connect harness assemblies (11) and (10) .
Install hose (9).

Install hose (8) .
Connect hose assembly (6) to base assembly (7).

Close drain valve (4) on bowl assembly (5) .
Close drain valves (2) and (1) on filter base (3) .
Open the fuel shutoff valve.
