Information:
Movement of the machine could result in death or personal injury. Shut the 3208T (Engine B) diesel engine down. Tag the machine controls. Lock the main battery switch at OFF before starting work.
The rotating cutter could cause death or injury. Disengage the cutter clutch. Shut the 3412 cutter engine (Engine A) down. Tag the engine control before working on or near the cutter.
1. Open cutter belt cover (1). 2. Loosen four bolts (2) on the take up only enough to allow the take up to slide. 3. Loosen jam nut (3) on drive sheave adjusting bolt (5).4. Turn the bolt to loosen the belt band tension.5. Remove belt bands (6) from the sheaves. The following steps are for the installation of the belt bands.
Never pry a belt band onto a pulley or sheave, or the belt band will be damaged. Always use a new matched set of belt bands. If only one belt band is replaced, the new belt band will be carrying the load and will fail rapidly.
6. Place belt bands (6) to the sheaves.7. Hold upper nut (3).8. Turn adjusting bolt (5) until the belt tension is correct. Check the tension by placing a rigid bar across the width of the belt band midway between the upper sheave and the cutter sheave (approximately 50.8 mm (20 in) from the center of either sheave). A 265 N (60 lb) force should produce a deflection of 5/8 16.0 mm (in). CHECK EACH BELT BAND SEPARATELY.9. When the belt tension is correct, hold the adjusting bolt and tighten the lower nut (4).10. Tighten take up bolts (2).11. Close cutter cover (1).12. Clear the cutter area.
The rotating cutter could cause death or injury. Disengage the cutter clutch. Shut the 3412 cutter engine (Engine A) down. Tag the engine control before working on or near the cutter.
13. Switch the main disconnect ON.14. Start the 3412 (Engine A) diesel engine.15. Run the cutter for about fifteen seconds without a load.16. Disengage the cutter clutch.17. Shut the engine down.18. Switch the main disconnect OFF.19. Readjust the belt tension. The following is a periodic check for belt tension: a. After the first 1/2 hour of operationb. After the first 4 hours of operationc. After the first day of operationd. After the second day of operatione. After the first week of operationf. After the first 200 hours of operation
