Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot. Hot oil can cause burns. Release any hydraulic pressure and be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any fittings, hoses or components are disconnected in the hoist, converter and brake hydraulic system.
1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the machine that is being serviced. The capacity of the hydraulic tank is 250 litres (66 US gal). 2. Turn battery disconnect switch (1) to the OFF position and remove the key. 3. Remove three bolts (2) and the washers. Remove cover (3) from the machine. 4. Disconnect electrical wires (4) and (5) from electric drive pump (6). 5. Disconnect hose assemblies (7), (8) and (9) from electric drive pump (6). 6. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to electric drive pump (6), as shown.7. Remove two bolts (10) and the washers. Use the hoist to carefully remove the electric drive pump from the machine. The weight of the electric drive pump is 12 kg (26.5 lb).
