Troubleshooting
Note: Refer to “Mechanical Actuated Fan - Disassemble” and “Mechanical Actuated Fan - Assemble” for the procedures to remove mechanical components and install mechanical components.Problem 1: The blades will not move in either direction.
Cause 1: The tapered pin that holds the operator fork to the control shaft has broken.Solution 1: Replace the control shaft assembly and any other components that are damaged.Cause 2: The bellcrank between the control shaft and the through shaft is broken.Solution 2: Replace the control shaft assembly and any other components that are damaged.Cause 3: The shifter block assembly has seized.Solution 3: Remove the fan and disassemble the fan. Replace the shifter block assembly and any other internal components that are damaged.Cause 4: The blade mounting shaft is over center.Solution 4: Identify the blade mounting shaft that is over center. If the blades are attached, use that blade to force the blade shaft back over center. If the blades are removed, screw two bolts into the threaded holes of the blade mounting shaft. Place a pry bar between the two bolts and turn the blade mounting shaft back over center.Problem 2: The blades move into full pitch in one direction, only.
Cause 1: The through shaft is broken or the shaft is disconnected.Solution 1: Remove the fan and disassemble the fan. Replace the through shaft and any other internal components that are damaged.Cause 2: The shifter block bearings have seized.Solution 2: Remove the fan and disassemble the fan. Replace the shifter block assembly and any other internal components that are damaged.Problem 3: The blades move into full pitch in one direction, and the blades move into the partial pitch position in the other direction.
Cause 1: The through shaft and the through bearing end joint are partially threaded.Solution 1: Disassemble the fan and tighten the through shaft to a torque of 108.5 13.6 N m (80.0 10.0 lb ft). Check the through shaft for wear on the threads and contamination of the bearings. Replace the seal kit. Replace any other internal components that are damaged.Problem 4: The hub assembly will not turn.
Cause 1: The main bearings have seized.Solution 1: Remove the fan and disassemble the fan. Replace the main bearings and any other internal components that are damaged.Cause 2: The shifter block bearings have seized.Solution 2: Remove the fan and disassemble the fan. Replace the shifter block assembly and any other internal components that are damaged.Cause 3: The fan drive belts are too tight.Solution 3: Adjust the height of the mounting bracket assembly in order to correlate with the height of the engine. Adjust the tension of the applicable belts. Replacement of the belts with longer belts may be required.Problem 5: The fan blades are extremely hard to move into pitch.
Cause 1: The control shaft bushings have seized.Solution 1: Spray penetrating oil into the bushings in order to flush out any foreign material. Grease the bushings. Add grease fittings, if no grease fittings exist.Cause 2: A pivot block is sticking or a pivot block
