Start By:a. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.b. Remove the dump body. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Dump Body - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.c. Remove the intermediate drive shaft and carrier bearing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Power Train "Drive Shaft (Intermediate) and Drive Shaft Carrier Bearing - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.d. Release the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly. "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the separation procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism. Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This will help prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system. To perform the following procedure the machine must be parked on a flat surface with the rear wheels blocked. 1. Release the oil pressure from the braking system. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, Braking System, "Braking System Pressure Release" for the machine that is being serviced.2. Remove six bolts (1) from cover (2) and remove the cover.3. Disconnect four hose assemblies (3) from the manifold.4. Disconnect and cap service and parking brake hose assemblies (4) and (5) from the manifold. 5. Disconnect wiring harness (6) from the electrical connector. Move the harness away from the hitch area.6. Disconnect the camera cable (if equipped). Pull the cable towards the hitch to allow reasonable separation distance.7. Disconnect the automatic lubrication supply hose (if equipped), from the injector bank at the hitch.8. Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced. 9. Remove bolt (7) and the washer to disconnect the earth
