Start By:a. Remove the front suspension cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Suspension Cylinder (Front) - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
High pressure cylinder. Do not remove any parts until pressure has been relieved or personal injury may occur.
Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.1. Purge the suspension cylinders of oil and nitrogen. Refer to Suspension Cylinder, Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Suspension Cylinder (Front) - Purge and Charge" for the machine that is being serviced. 2. Position a suitable container below the suspension cylinder. Drain any remaining hydraulic oil from the suspension cylinder into a suitable container for disposal or storage.3. Position the suspension cylinder in Tooling (A). The weight of the suspension cylinder is 145 kg (320 lb).4. Remove two valve assemblies (5) and the O-ring seals from rod assembly (4).5. Remove relief valve (6) and the washer from head (2).6. Remove 18 bolts (3), the washers and the two cover assemblies from head (2).7. Put identification marks on head (2) and cylinder assembly (1) for assembly purposes.8. Use Tooling (A) in order to separate cylinder assembly (1) from rod assembly (4).9. Remove wear ring (9), plate (7) and ball (8) from rod assembly (4).10. Remove rod assembly (4) from Tooling (A). Remove head (2) from rod assembly (4).11. Remove O-ring seal (10) and ring (11) from head (2). Remove U-cup seal (14), lip seal (13) and seal (12) from head (2).12. Use a suitable screwdriver to remove two lockrings (16) from the head end of cylinder assembly (1).13. Use a suitable press to remove bearing (15) from the head end of cylinder assembly (1).14. Use a suitable screwdriver to remove two lockrings (17) from the rod end of cylinder assembly (1).15. Use a suitable press to remove bearing (18) from the rod end of cylinder assembly (1).
