G3412LE (3NK) EnginesA new head assembly is now available for the G3400 Engines. The assembly includes new 20.25 degree inlet and exhaust valve seats. Valves with a face angle of 19.25 degrees are also used with the new head assembly. The new design improves heat transfer between the valve face and valve seat to increase reliability and extend service life. The serviceable head assembly and effective serial numbers are shown in Chart A.
The serviceable 9Y9804 Inlet Valve and 1018314 Chromed Stem Exhaust Valve are used with the new head assembly. (Note: Serial numbers 6NB1034 to 6NB1039 received Cat Part No. 9Y9803 Exhaust Valves.)
The new 6I Head Assemblies are interchangeable with the previous head assemblies. However, only valves with 19.25 degree face angles may be used with the new head. When replacing the previous head with a 6I Head Assembly, the old valves must be replaced with the 9Y9804 Inlet Valve and 1018314 Exhaust Valve.
Previous head assemblies may be retrofitted with 20.25 degree valve seats. If a valve seat retrofit is made, the 9Y9804 Inlet Valve and 1018314 Exhaust Valve must be used.
Oversized 20.25 degree valve seats are available for the 6I Head Assembly. The oversized valve seats may also be used to retrofit previous head assemblies (see instructions above). Chart B shows the available seats.
