Information:
Hookup
1. Connect analyzer to the Diagnostic Connector (Most often near the starter, but sometimes inside the cab.)
REMOVE ETHER CANISTER, if so equipped.
2. Put the Key Start Switch in the ON position. (If present, the Disconnect Switch must also be on.)3. All accessories must be OFF (lights, heater fan, etc).4. The engine must be shut off to start the test.Operation - Test
Test
A HOOKUP - Make a comparison between the lamps and the lamp normal operation chart next to them. If all lamp indications are the same as shown on the chart, put the Key Start Switch in the OFF position. This should cause the MAIN RELAY AND/OR BREAKER lamp to come ON. Failure to do so is indication of a defect in the relay (if present). Put the Key Start Switch back in the ON position and go to Test Step B. If lamp indications are different from that shown on the chart, see Diagnosis and Troubleshooting.B CRANK - Crank the engine with the fuel in the "shut-off" position. (All machines, except those with 3208 Engines, have a mechanical fuel shut-off, as found on the foot pedal. For machines with 3208 Engines, see SEHS7768.) Do not start engine. Do not use Start Aid. If all lamp indications are the same as shown on the chart, go to Test Step C, if not, see Diagnosis and Troubleshooting.C START AID - Do not start engine. Push and hold the Start Aid Switch. If all lamp indications are the same as shown on the chart, go to Test Step D; if not, see Diagnosis and Troubleshooting.D HI IDLE - INSTALL ETHER CANISTER. Start engine and run at high idle for a minimum of two minutes. If all lamp indications are the same as shown on the chart, turn on all possible electrical accessories (lights, air conditioning, etc.); if lamp indications are still the same as shown on the chart, starting and charging system is within specifications, if not, see Diagnosis and Troubleshooting.Diagnosis And Troubleshooting Machine Faults
Most probable defects for a correctly wired machine are shown below. There is a defect when lamp indication is different than shown on chart beside lamps. In a given test step, make a diagnosis of only the upper most indication of a defect and none of the others. Correct only this defect, then test again and go to any of the remainder of test steps.
Test Coolant Switch (temperature) and Start Aid Switch/Solenoid with ether canister removed.
NO LAMPS ON, ANALYZER OFF - Vehicle batteries discharged or installed backwards, open battery wiring (disconnect switch, if present), incorrectly wired machine, or defect in analyzer. STARTER GROUND CIRCUIT - Cable or connection defect (or defect in disconnect switch, if present). BATTERIES - ON in Steps A, C and D is an indication of weak or discharged batteries. If OFF in Step B when engine does not crank, make diagnosis of next fault. ALTERNATOR BREAKER - Activated (tripped) or defect in breaker. KEY BREAKER - Activated (tripped) or defect in breaker.
