To brake off port on winch.Oil pressure from the priority valve on the transmission filter base is directed to the winch control valve through line (K). See Illustration 1. When the winch control lever is in the "freespool with hydraulic drag brake" or the "freespool with spring drag brake" positions, (see the Illustration 2) the winch control valve spool is moved to the bottom of its stroke as shown in Illustration 3. This directs oil pressure out of winch control valve ports (8) and (10).
Port (8) on the winch control valve is connected by line (L) (see Illustration 1) to port (B) on the winch. When oil pressure is applied to winch port (B), the winch brake is released.

One branch of the "tee" goes through line (M) (see Illustration 1) to port (C) on the winch. Port (C) is connected to passage (13) in the winch. See Illustration 4. When the oil pressure in passage (13) overcomes the pressure of springs (7) and (14), fork (6) moves coupler (4) and disconnects drum (1) from the winch gear train. The drum is then in the "freespool" condition. The other branch of the "tee" at Port (11) of the winch control valve (see Illustration 1) is connected by line (N) to the solenoid valve.

1. Winch control lever. 2. Drum drag brake switch.The solenoid valve is electrically actuated by drum drag brake switch (2). See Illustration 5. When the winch control lever is in any position but "freespool with hydraulic drag brake," the normally closed drum drag brake switch supplies power to the solenoid valve. When power is supplied to the solenoid valve, lines (P) and (Q) are connected inside the solenoid valve. See Illustration 1. Line (P) is a drain line. Line (Q) is connected to port (D) on the winch. Port (D) is connected to passage (9) in the winch. See Illustration 4. When electrical power is supplied to the solenoid valve, passage (9) is connected to drain line (P). Under this condition there is no hydraulic pressure on piston (10). But spring (5) puts some pressure on piston (10) which pushes on plug (11). Plug (11) rubs on the flange of drum (1). This puts
