Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the Air Spring. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Springs - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: If the machine is equipped with special application drive wheels, Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, S?CTE region cte='5.3.0.4' crc=''>?CTE region cte='5.3.0.4' crc=''>EBU7072, "Slotted Cast Drive Wheel Scrapers - Adjust" for the correct procedure.
Remove bolts and washers (2) and use two people to remove the guard assembly (1). The weight of the guard assembly (1) is 36 kg (79 lb).

Raise the rear of the bogie suspension by using a lift truck.
Remove bolts (3). Use two people to remove two outer rollers and two inner rollers (4). The weight of each roller is 30 kg (6 lb).

Use a fork lift to raise the front bogie assembly.
Remove bolts (6). Use two people to remove two outer rollers and two inner rollers (5). The weight of each roller is 30 (65 lb).

Remove two bolts (7) and remove reflector (8) .

Remove bolts (9) and remove cover (10). The bogie suspension contains 0.395 L (0.42 qt) oil.

Remove bolts and washers (11). Remove plate (12) .

Use a fork lift to remove the front bogie assembly (13) from the spindle assembly (1). The weight of the front bogie assembly is 145 kg (320 lb).

Attach a suitable lifting device to the bogie assembly and remove the U-bolts (16). Separate major bogie arm (15) from axle assembly (17). The major bogie arm (15) weighs 47 kg (104 lb).

Attach a suitable lifting device to the rear bogie assembly (18). A fork lift is shown. Remove the bogie assembly (18) from the spindle assembly (14). The rear bogie assembly (18) weighs 172 kg (380 lb).

Attach a suitable lifting device to the rear bogie assembly.
Remove U-bolts (20) and separate minor bogie arm (21) from the axle assembly (19). The minor bogie arm (21) weighs 70 kg (154 lb).

If necessary, remove oil seal (22) from spindle (14) .
