Place the Plate-Compression on the Rotocoils as shown in Illustration 11. Place the Valve Spring Compression Assembly on the head. Align the (3) 8mm bolts to the holes in the head for attaching the valve cover. Align the 14mm bolt with the Left Rocker Shaft Assembly bolt hole in the head. Hand tighten until after the next step.
Turn the compression rod clockwise to bring the thrust bearing down to the Plate- Compression. Position the Plate- Compression so the thrust bearing on the compression rod goes into the pilot of the plate.
Tighten all of the bolts on the Valve Spring Compressor Assembly to 15 N.m. The top bolts on the Top Bridge Assembly can be tightened to 80 N.m. The assembly is now securely assembled to be used on the remaining heads without adjustment.Valve Spring Removal

Using an 18mm wrench, turn the compression rod clockwise. Torque required to turn the rod during compression will range from 20-30 N.m
As the Plate-Compression begins to compress, the springs on the valve stems may move down 3mm to 6mm before they stop. Note: If the valve stems continue to move after the plate is compressed more than 6 mm, the cylinder is not at TDC. Release the pressure on the springs. Inspect and verify cylinder position. Repeat KENR5397 "Finding the Top Dead Center for the No. 1 Piston".
As the springs continue to be compressed, the retainers may stick and not release. (If they do not release, a light tap with a soft mallet on the corners of the plate will cause them to release.) Turn the compression rod until the retainers are free and can be removed.

Remove eight valve spring retainer locks. Once the retainers are free, carefully remove them. A magnetic rod, as shown, may be helpful.
Carefully turn the compression rod counterclockwise to release tension on valve spring assemblies.

Once all spring tension is released, remove tooling, rotocoils, outer valve springs, and inner valve springs. Verify that the valve stem seals are still in place.Valve Spring Installation
Make sure that all components and tools are clean and free of dirt, fluids, and other contaminants.

Install inner valve springs (15b), outer valve springs (15a), and rotocoils (16) (four each) on cylinder head (9). For more information on installing valve springs, refer to RENR 7466, C175 Engine Disassembly and Assembly Manual.

Insert Plate-Compression. Turn the compression rod clockwise to bring the thrust bearing down to the Plate-Compression. Position the Plate-Compression so that the thrust bearing on the compression rod goes into the pilot of the plate. Using an 18mm wrench, turn the compression rod clockwise. Torque required to turn the rod during compression will range from 20-30 N.m. Compress the springs until the stop is reached on the compression rod.
