Grease is under high pressure.Grease coming out of the relief valve under pressure can penetrate the body causing injury or death.Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened.Loosen the relief valve only one turn.
To prevent personal injury, never visually inspect the vent holes or the valves to see if grease or oil is coming out of them. Make sure the vent holes are clean before the tension is released on the track. Watch the front roller frame to see that it moves.
Introduction
The sag in the track must be maintained. The following test procedure will verify whether the sag in the track is within the specified limit.Test Procedure
Move the machine forward for two times the length of the machine. Allow the machine to come to a stop without the use of the brakes.Note: Test the track under the operating conditions that exist on the job site. Packing must NOT be removed from the track if packing conditions exist on the job.

Measure clearance (A). Clearance (A) is between the front of the stop on the recoil rod and the rear face of the equalizer bar mounting plate.Note: Do not tighten the track if clearance (A) is less than 3.18 mm (0.125 inch).Track Adjustment Procedure
(1) Torque for fill and relief valves ... 35 7 N m (25 5 lb ft)For correct track adjustment, use the following procedure.Note: Adjust the track under the operating conditions that exist on the job site. Packing must NOT be removed from the track if packing conditions exist on the job.
Move the machine forward for two times the length of the machine. Allow the machine to come to a stop without the use of the brakes.
Remove the valve cover plate.

Track in the full tight position
Use the fill valve to add multipurpose grease (MPGM) in order to move the idler toward the front of the machine. Move the idler until the track is in the full tight position. Make a mark (B) on the track roller frame that is flush with the front face of the idler bearing assembly.
Make a mark (C) on the track roller frame that is 13.0 mm (0.51 inch) behind mark (B) .

Loose track
Open the relief valve and allow the idler to move back until the front face of the idler bearing assembly is behind mark (C) .Note: It is necessary to move the machine back and forth in order to move the idler back to the correct position.
Close the relief valve.

Correct track adjustment
Use the fill valve to add multipurpose grease (MPGM) and move the idler forward again until the front face of the idler bearing assembly is even with mark (C) that is on the track roller frame.
Install the valve cover plate.
Repeat the procedure for the opposite side of the machine.
