Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil pump.

Turn the crankshaft until two pistons are at the BOTTOM CENTER position. Remove bolts (1) and connecting rod caps (2) from the two connecting rods. Remove the lower half of the bearings from connecting rod caps (2).
Push the connecting rods away from the crankshaft and remove the upper half of the bearings.
Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 for the remaining connecting rod bearings. Installation Procedure
Check the clearance of the bearings.
Turn the crankshaft until two pistons are at the BOTTOM CENTER position.
Clean the bearing surfaces and clean the connecting rod surfaces. Install the upper half of the new bearings in the connecting rods. Install the lower half of the new bearings in the connecting rod caps. Apply clean engine oil on the bearings, bolt threads, and contact surfaces of the nuts.

Illustration 3 g00990450Note: When you install the connecting rod caps ensure that the number on the side of the cap matches the number on the side of the connecting rod.
Place connecting rod caps (2) in position and install bolts (1). Tighten the nuts to a torque of 41 4 N m (30 3 lb ft). Place a mark on each nut and the end of each bolt. Tighten the nuts for an additional 90 degrees.
Repeat Step 1 through Step 4 for the additional connecting rod bearings. End By:
