E 7M-7456 Bearing Mount Compound - Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Use Tooling (B) to install retaining ring (18) on the shaft assembly.
Raise the temperature of bearing (17) and bearing (15).
Install bearing (17), spacer (16), and bearing (15) on the shaft assembly.

Install slinger (19) in body (1).
Apply a thin coat of Tooling (E) to the outside diameter of lip seal (20). Use Tooling (D) in order to install lip seal (20) in body (1). Install lip seal (20) even with the bottom of the bearing bore with the lip of the seal toward the bearings. Apply a small layer of engine oil on the lip of the seal. Note: Ensure that slinger (19) is in the correct position on the shaft assembly when you install the shaft assembly in body (1).Note: Apply a piece of tape to both ends of the shaft assembly in order to protect the seals from damage during the assembly procedure.

Install the shaft assembly and the bearings in body (1) through the slinger and the lip seal.

Use Tooling (A) in order to install retaining ring (9) that holds the shaft assembly in place.
Place spacer (8) in position over the shaft assembly.
Install key (7) in the shaft assembly.

Install gear (4), washer (5), and nut (6). Tighten the nut to a torque of 60 7 N m (44 5 lb ft).
Illustration 6 g01934721Note: Only use clean water as a lubricant for assembly. Do not damage the carbon ring or the ceramic ring. Do not place your hands on the wear surface of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring.
Install seal assembly (13) over the shaft assembly. Push seal assembly (13) on the shaft assembly until the seal faces make light contact.
Install shim (12).

Firmly install impeller (11) on the shaft assembly. Note: Ensure that the spring retainer and the shims stay in position on the shaft assembly.
Install locknut (10) for impeller (11). Tighten the locknut to a torque of 30 3 N m (22 2 lb ft). Note: The locknut has left hand thread.

Install the gasket, body (1), the lockwashers, and nuts (2) on housing (3). End By:
Install the auxiliary water pump.
