RETAINER-BEARING 5N9425 - Caterpillar

1. Disconnect wires (2), (3) and (4) from the alternator.2. Loosen two nuts (1) on the adjusting rod.3. Remove guard assembly (7) from the alternator.4. Remove two V-belts (8) from the alternator pulley.5. Remove the nut and bolt (5) that hold the adjusting rod to the alternator.6. Remove bolt (9) and alternator (6) from the engine. The following steps are for installation of the alternator.7. Put alternator (6) in position on the support, and install bolt (9).8. Put the adjusting rod in position on the alternator, and install bolt (5) and the nut to hold it in place. Do not tighten the bolt at this time.9. Put V-belts (8) in position on the alternator pulley.10. Use two nuts (1) to adjust the V-belt tension. Use a belt tension gauge, such as a Borroughs Tool Company, Part No. BT-33-95 or equivalent; to check the belt tension. The correct gauge reading is 120 5 for a new belt or 90 10 for a used belt.11. Tighten two nuts (1) and bolt (5) after the V-belt tension has been adjusted.12. Install guard assembly (7).13. Connect wires (2), (3) and (4) to the alternator.
