Standard torque of the flex plate bolts can distort the flex plates which may reduce rotor bearing endplay. When assembling the flex plates to the generator hub, the bolts must be tightened to the correct torque. The correct torque is 525 55 N m (390 40 lb ft). This torque applies to the eight 8S-9093 Bolts of the 8N-7152 Coupling Group that fasten the flex plates to the generator hub. See Illustration 1.

GENERATOR ALIGNMENT INFORMATION
Some SR4 generators and non-Caterpillar generators do not pilot into the flywheel bore. To properly align these generators the following procedure should be used:
Illustration 2. Generator Alignment.1. Check the runout between the generator housing and the rotor shaft. See Illustration 2. Mount the base of the dial indicator to the generator housing. Place the contact point of the dial indicator on the rotor shaft within one inch of the hub. Make sure the surface of the rotor shaft is smooth in the measurement area. The specified TIR is 0.075 mm (.003 in).

Fasten the base of the dial indicator to one of the flex plate flywheel bolts. Place the contact point of the dial indicator on the rotor shaft within one inch of the hub. Make sure the surface of the rotor shaft is smooth in the measurement area. The specified TIR is 0.250 mm (.010 in).
