The accumulator check will provide an advisory system to warn the machine operator if the brake accumulators do not have enough stored energy to provide at least one brake application pressure.The accumulator check test is conducted only during a machine start-up. The system has to meet set of parameters in order for the test to run automatically.If the system detects low accumulator gas pressure, a 1449 -3 Brake Accumulator Gas Press Low warning will be activated. Consult your Cat dealer for service.Note: If EID 1449 -3: Brake Accumulator Gas Press Low warning is active, the operator shuts down the machine, and then restarts the machine. The warning will de-activate as the accumulator check test is unlikely to run. Once EID 1449 -3: Brake Accumulator Gas Press Low is activated, then consult your Cat dealer for service.Note: If the machine is operated after a EID 1449 -3 Brake Accumulator Gas Press Low warning is generated without servicing the accumulators, the machine may appear normal. However, the system may not have any braking capacity.Note: This feature is not intended to indicate compliance with ISO3450 brake energy storage requirements.If the machine S/W detects that the accumulator check has not been executed for 500 hours, then a warning EID 1528-1 Accumulator Gas Press Test Overdue will display on CMPD. If the test is not executed for 550 hours, then a warning will be elevated to level 2. Perform the following procedure:
Shut down the machine and press the brake pedal and hold for approximately 5 seconds.
Release the brake pedal and wait for approximately 10 seconds.
Repeat steps 1 thru 2 until you feel no resistance. Then press the pedal for five more times at the same rate.
Turn key switch to the ON position to start the CMPD.
Monitor the brake accumulator pressure on CMPD. If the brake accumulators pressure on CMPD is higher than 400 kPa, press the brake pedal at the same rate mentioned in steps 1 thru 2 until the pressure reads 400 kpa or below and stable for a minute.
Ensure that the park brake is applied and release the service brake pedal.
Turn key switch to the OFF position and wait for minimum of 2 seconds.
Start the engine and the test will run automatically. Do not operate any machine feature for a minimum of 2 minutes.Every Year
Personal injury or death can result from improper accumulator charging.Dry Nitrogen is the only gas approved for use in the accumulator. Charging the accumulator with oxygen will cause an explosion. This danger will not happen if nitrogen cylinders with standard CGA (Compressed Gas Association, Inc.) Number 580 connections are used.When ordering nitrogen gas, be sure that the cylinders are equipped with CGA Number 580 connections. Do not use color codes or other methods of identification to tell the difference between nitrogen and oxygen cylindersNever use an adapter to connect your nitrogen charging group to a valve outlet used on both nitrogen, oxygen, or other gas cylinders. BE SURE YOU USE DRY NITROGEN (99.8% purity).
