7. Remove nine nuts (5). Remove torque converter (4) from the planetary group. Weight of the torque converter is 170 lb. (77 kg).Install Torque Converter
1. Fasten a hoist to torque converter (1) and put it in position on the planetary group. Install the nine nuts that hold it. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 75 10 lb.ft. (100 14 N m). 2. Fasten a hoist to transmission case (2) and put it in position over the planetary group and torque converter.3. Install the eleven bolts that hold the transmission case to the planetary group on the inside of the case. 4. Install eighteen bolts (3) that hold the transmission case to the planetary group at the bottom.end by:a) install transfer gearsb) install transmission hydraulic controlsDisassemble Torque Converter
start by:a) remove torque converter1. Put the torque converter in position on wood block. 2. Remove ring (2) and support assembly (1) from the torque converter. 3. Remove thirty-six bolts (3) and washers that hold the impeller to the housing. 4. Install two 5/16"-18 NC forcing screws (4) in the impeller as shown. Tighten the screws evenly until the impeller is loose. Remove impeller (5) and the hub as a unit. 5. Remove twelve bolts (6), plate (7) and hub (8) from the impeller. 6. Remove race (9) and bearing (10) from the carrier assembly.7. Remove the carrier assembly and stator as a unit. 8. Remove ring (12) and plate (11). 9. Remove carrier assembly (13) and bearing (14) from the stator. 10. Remove ring (15) and plate (17) from the stator. Remove springs (16) and roller (18) from the cam in the stator. 11. Heat the stator to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) for approximately five minutes. Push cam (19) out of the stator. 12. Remove bearing (20) from the hub.13. Remove seal (21) from the hub. 14. Remove bearing (22) and race (23) from the hub.15. Turn the housing on its side. 16. Remove ring (25) and washer (24) that holds shaft (26) in position. Remove the shaft from the flange and hub assembly. 17. Remove turbine (27) and hub as a unit from the housing. 18. Remove race (28) from the hub.19. Make a mark across the hub and turbine so that the hub can be installed in the same position in the turbine.20. Remove bolts (29). Remove the ring and hub from the turbine. 21. Remove bearing (30) and the race from the housing. 22. Remove bolts (31). Remove flange assembly (32) from housing (33).Assemble Torque Converter
Before the torque converter is assembled, See Torque Converter Clearance Checks on Page 192 if the torque converter is to operate with efficiency. 1. Put flange assembly (2) in position in housing (1). Install the bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 81 4 lb.ft. (111 5 N m). 2. Turn the housing over. Install race (4) and bearing (3) on the flange assembly. 3. Put hub (7) in position in turbine
