View B-B (13) Oil inlet port. (14) Oil outlet port.The filter for the cooling circuit filters any debris that is in the hydraulic oil. The filter prevents debris from contaminating the cooling circuit.During normal operation, the oil flows through filter element (9) to oil outlet port (13) .Correct maintenance recommendations must be followed in order to ensure that the filter element does not become plugged with debris. If the filter element is plugged, the flow of filtered oil to the system stops. However, unfiltered oil will flow past bypass valve (6). This oil will then flow to the oil cooler. When the oil does not flow through the filter element, the debris in the oil could cause damage to other components in the hydraulic system.If the filter element becomes plugged with debris, then the restriction to the oil flow will cause an increase in pressure inside filter housing (8). This causes bypass valve (6) to move to the OPEN position.If the pressure of the oil in passage (11) is 137.9 13.8 kPa (20.00 2.00 psi) greater than the pressure that is inside passage (11), pressure switch (3) will actuate. Pressure switch (3) is monitored by the VIMS.The VIMS will then display either a Warning Category 2 or a Warning Category 3. The warning notifies the operator that the filter element is plugged.A Warning Category 2 indicates that the filter element is becoming plugged with debris. A Warning Category 3 indicates that the filter element has been plugged for a time that is greater than two minutes. Shut down the machine safely.For additional information on the VIMS, refer to Service Manual, RENR6318, "Vital Information Management System (VIMS)".Note: The oil will also bypass the filter element during cold start-up conditions when the oil is cold. In this case, the VIMS will not display a warning. As the oil warms up, the bypass valve will move to the CLOSED position. This action will allow the oil to flow through the filter element unless the filter element is plugged.
