In order to position the governor actuator rod, the Controller (connector contact 34 and contact 10) sends a DC voltage signal to the Governor Actuator Control (connector contacts 5 and 6). The DC voltage signal varies between 0 and 5 VDC. This signal level varies in response to the adjustment of the Engine Speed Dial by the operator. The Governor Actuator Control (connector contacts 16 and 17) positions the governor actuator rod by varying the duty cycle of the signal to the Governor Actuator Solenoid Valve. The Governor Actuator Control monitors the position of the actuator rod through a feedback signal (connector contact 13). The Governor Actuator Control (connector contact 24) continuously informs the Controller (connector contact 46) about the actual position of the governor actuator. The Controller uses the information in order to determine when the governor actuator rod is in the correct position. When the Governor Actuator Rod is fully extended, the feedback signal from the Governor Actuator Control (connector contact 24) should be approximately 0.5 VDC. When the Governor Actuator Rod is fully retracted, the feedback signal from the Governor Actuator Control (connector contact 24) should be approximately 4.5 VDC. When the Controller determines that the level of the feedback signal for the position of the governor actuator rod matches the selection of the engine speed dial, the Controller commands the Governor Actuator Control in order to stabilize the output signal. This will stabilize the position of the governor actuator rod. The position sensor of the governor actuator rod must be electronically calibrated by the "Speed Cal" procedure of the service tool (PDT or PTS with Electronic Technician) whenever the Governor Actuator, the Governor Actuator Control, or the Controller is replaced. Also, the sensor must be calibrated when the Low Idle and High Idle speed settings have been adjusted. The calibration of the governor actuator allows the controller to know which position feedback signal and requested engine speed correspond to one another. If the Controller does not receive accurate information about the position of the governor actuator rod, the regulation of the pressure of the Main Pump can be adversely affected and poor machine performance will result. The position sensor of the governor actuator is incorporated into the case of the governor actuator. The Governor Actuator Control sends a signal from connector contacts 1 and 19 to the position sensor. The signal has the following characteristics: fixed 5.0 volt, 2.7 kHz 300 Hz, 50 % duty cycle and square wave. This position sensor acts as a differential transformer and gives the Governor Actuator Control a position feedback signal. The peak to peak amplitude of the feedback signal varies between 0 and 640 millivolts. The variation of the signal depends on the position of the actuator rod. See the information for the Position Sensor (Governor Actuator) in Systems Operation, "Sensors". The feedback signal is returned to the Governor Actuator Control (connector contact 13). As the governor actuator rod moves, the feedback signal changes
