Remove the piston and connecting rods.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant completely from the cylinder block.
Remove the cylinder head and the piston.
Put a protective cover over the crankshaft to prevent dirt and debris from falling on the crankshaft.

Install Tooling (A) into the cylinder liner. Put the legs into position to engage with the bottom of the cylinder liner.
Fasten two hydraulic hoses from the pump group to the hydraulic cylinder on Tooling (A).
Use Tooling (A) to pull the cylinder liner from the cylinder block. This should be done until the lower O-ring seals are free in the bore of the cylinder block.

Fasten a nylon strap and a suitable lifting device to Tooling (A). Lift cylinder liner (1) out of the cylinder block. The combined weight of cylinder liner (1) and Tooling (A) is approximately 127 kg (280 lb).

Remove O-ring seal (2) and O-ring seals (3) from the cylinder liner.
Lower the cylinder liner on the blocks. Remove Tooling (A).
Inspect the cylinder liner. Refer to Guidelines for Reusable Parts, SEBF8068, "Cylinder Liners".
