Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Prepare the machine for maintenance. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Prepare the Machine for Maintenance".
Remove drain plugs (2) from filter housings (1). Drain the oil into a suitable container. Clean the drain plugs and install the drain plugs.Note: Removing the drain plugs from the bottom of the filter housings may not drain all of the oil from the filters.
Remove the filter housings and the filter elements. Discard the used filter elements.
Wash the filter housings in clean nonflammable solvent.
Inspect the seals in the filter bases. If the seals are damaged, replace seals with new seals.
Install the new filter elements in the filter housings. Install the filter housings.
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Make sure that the parking brake is engaged. Check for leaks and make any necessary repairs.
Check the oil level in each final drive. If necessary, add oil. For the proper procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil - Check".Note: Correct oil levels are critical in the final drives. Check the oil level after repairs and after maintenance.Note: The final drive oil level needs to be checked and maintained at operating temperature. If the oil level is checked cold, adjustment of the oil level may be necessary when the truck reaches operating temperature.
