Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel Tank and Water Sediment - Drain" for the correct draining and filling procedure.
Open the hood.
Release the hydraulic system pressure.

Disconnect hose assembly (1) and harness assembly (2). Remove fill tube (3).

Disconnect hose assembly (4) .

Disconnect hose assembly (6). Remove baffle assembly (5).

Disconnect all clips (7) attached to the fuel tank.

Use Tooling (A) to remove guard assembly (9). The weight of guard assembly (9) is approximately 40 kg (88 lb). Remove bolts (8) and guard assembly (9).

Disconnect hose assemblies (10) and remove tube assembly (11).
Remove bolts (13) and axle coolers (12).

Use Tooling (A) to support fuel tank (14). The weight of fuel tank (14) is approximately 211 kg (465 lb). Remove bolts (15) and (16). Lower fuel tank (14) with Tooling (A).Installation Procedure
Install fuel tank (6) in the reverse order of removal.
