Connect one end of a transparent tube that is 6.4 mm (0.25 inch) in diameter to the service brake air purge valve. Place the other end of the tube into a suitable container for collecting the hydraulic oil.
Have the assistant slowly depress the brake pedal. Hold the brake pedal in this position throughout Step 9.
Open the air purge valve. Turn the valve one-half turn to permit oil flow through the tube. As the hydraulic oil flows through the tube, look for air bubbles in the oil. Allow the oil to flow into the container until no air bubbles are visible. Then, tighten the air purge valve.
Release the brake pedal.
Perform this procedure for each wheel brake, but do only one wheel brake at a time. After the air has been removed, be sure that all air purge valves are closed.
Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to service port (5).

Select the Diagnostics tab.
Select "Diagnostic Tests".

Select "Auto Retarder Control Test".
Start the engine. Allow the braking system oil pressure to increase to the cut-out pressure.

With the brake accumulator charging valve operating at cut-out pressure and all the conditions are met, click the Next button and then follow the steps.Note: Service brake oil pressure will be present 30 seconds after activation of the ARC test.The pressure will slowly increase to approximately 40 percent duty cycle for 30 seconds and then decrease to zero percent. The process will continue to cycle until canceled.

Click the Cancel button to stop the ARC Test.Note: An error will appear "Service Test Unsuccessful,"disregard this error, select"Finish".
Stop the engine. Fill the hydraulic tank, if necessary.
If the brakes feel soft in the first few hours of operation, repeat Steps 6 through 22 until no air is present in the service brake system.Purge the Air from the Parking Brake
To allow access to the front wheel brake assemblies, raise the lift arms and install the bucket control group safety pins.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Bucket Control Group Safety Pins" for the machine that is being serviced.
Check the hydraulic tank oil level. Make sure that you maintain the correct oil level in the hydraulic tank throughout the air removal procedure.
