the following procedure in order to flash program the ECM. The ECM is flashed in order to upgrade the software. Flash programming of the ECM must also be done if the ECM has been replaced. The Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) contains the program WinFlash. WinFlash is used in order to load software into the ECM. The following procedure is used in order to FLASH software into the ECM.Note: Two communications adapters are available to flash electronic control modules. The 7X-1700 Communications Adapter can be used to flash an ECM. However, the adapter cannot be used to flash a soft switch panel or a monitor. The 171-4400 Communication Adapter II is much faster than the previous adapter. This version can be used to flash ALL components on the machine.
Procedure
Connect the Data Link Cable between the Communication Adapter and Cat ET.
Connect the Data Link Cable between the Communication Adapter and the diagnostic connector of the machine.
Use WinFlash in order to load the software.
