Machine Operating Temperature Range
The configuration is intended for all machines for use within an ambient temperature range of −18 °C (−0 °F) to 43 °C (110 °F). Special configurations for different ambient temperatures may be available. The Cold Start Package helps starting the engine in cold weather. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Starting" for more information. If the machine is operated in high temperature conditions, the High Ambient Temperature Cooling Package is available. Consult your Cat dealer for additional information on special configurations of your machine.Downhill Operation
Always maintain a ground speed that is slow enough for the conditions. Before you operate down a hill, reduce machine speed by using the left pedal or lowering your virtual gear. The Accelerator pedal should be released so the engine speed is not at high idle when approaching the downhill. Slowing down will help prevent excessive engine overspeed. If the machine builds up excessive speed, the engine can overspeed.
Engine Overspeed can damage the engine, the hydraulic pump, and/or the power train.
Once on the hill, use the decelerate/service brake pedal to slow the machine if necessary. Using the left pedal in the retarding range can cause a normal increase in engine speed beyond the right pedal engine speed setting. Use the retarding range instead of the service brakes to decrease service brake wear and use less fuel during retarding. Engine overspeed events will be recorded above 2100 RPM and the display will show a RED highlighted range. During retarding, engine speed is automatically controlled to prevent overspeed. The operator does not directly control engine speed during these events. The brake/deceleration pedal can be used to reduce the speed limit of the machine when Traveling downhill.
If the operator presses the throttle pedal, the speed limit will increase up to the Virtual Gear speed limit, allowing the machine to travel faster down the grade.
If the Virtual Gear is changed, the speed limit will reset to the Virtual Gear speed limit. When operating on most grades, the machine is controlled to keep from rolling in a direction opposite to the direction of transmission direction switch. For example, if the transmission direction switch is in FORWARD, then this feature will prevent the machine from rolling back.Note: This feature does not replace using the parking brake when parking a machine. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Setting the Parking Brake" section for more information. The brake oil can overheat in the following conditions:
Fully depressing the decelerate/service brake pedal continuously to control travel speed
Fully depressing the decelerate/service brake pedal to stop at high speeds
Overheating can result in significant wear and/or damage to the left service brake pedal and final drive.
Changing Direction and Speed
Directional changes at full engine speed and machine speeds are possible. The transmission will automatically control machine deceleration to maximize operator comfort. To perform a directional shift, simply change the FNR selector. For less aggressive directional shifts, use the left pedal to reduce transmission output power. Also, decrease engine speed with the right pedal
