6. Remove the J1 plug from the ECM. Refer to Image1.8.1 for a view of the ECM plug location.

7. Make up the harness extension using required parts listed. Refer to Images1.9.1 and 1.9.2 for the harness setup.
Note: The ECM plug for reference only.

(2) 115-8109 Splice (Qty 2)
(3) ECM plug (for illustration only)
(4) 8T-8729 Pin-Connector (Qty 2)
(5) 394-9569 Socket-Connector (Qty 2)
(6) 300mm 0.75mm gauge wire (Qty 2)
Note: Ensure that the wires are twisted as shown.

8. Remove the blanks from pins J1-3 and J1-4.
9. Install the jumper harness into J1-3 (CAN high yellow) and J1-4 (CAN low green). Ensure that the wires are twisted. Refer to Image1.11.1.

10. Install the J1 plug on to the ECM.
11. Connect the CAN hi/low from the keypad to CAN hi/low from the ECM using 115-8109 Wire Splice (6). Refer to Image1.13.1.

12. Turn ON the battery disconnect switch.
13. Connect the ET service tool and connect via winflash. You will now see both parts of the processor, connect to ECM machine control #2. Refer to Image1.15.1.

14. Select secondary software. Refer to Image1.16.1.

15. Once the secondary processor has been successfully flashed, exit ET. Remove the ET service tool. Refer to Image1.17.1.

16. Turn OFF the battery disconnect switch. Remove plug J1 from the ECM and remove the jumper harness.
17. Install CAN wires into the correct locations in the keypad plug.

18. Install blanks into J1-3 and J1-4.
19. Reinstall the J1 plugs into the ECM.
20. Turn ON the battery disconnect switch.
21. Connect the ET service tool and flash the primary ECM processor as per normal process with new software using winflash.
22. If successful, cycle the key switch ON and OFF.
23. Clear all logged fault and event codes from the ECM, and download PSR.
24. Remove the ET service tool from the machine.
25. Test the machine.
26. Have the Dealer TC create a DSN / Product Health service request (SR) with priority of "Product Inquiry / Informational", attach the before and after PSR files, document the CPI number in the CPI field and "Close" the SR at the dealership. Do not submit the SR to Caterpillar.
27. For machines located inside Japan ONLY. Perform M0069514, Special Instruction, "Procedure to Reprogram the Machine ECM on Certain Compact Wheel Loaders".
Note: The new software will make the machine more aggressive than before in certain applications.
For machines fitted with the optional 8 button keypad the aggressiveness of the machine can be turned down by changing the modes listed below on the keypad to meet customer expectations. Refer to Image1.23.1.
For machines NOT fitted with the 8 button keypad the below, the listed models can be changed via ET to meet customer expectations.
