The Downshift Solenoid is Activated.The solenoids receive an electrical signal from the transmission control and the solenoids supply hydraulic pressure in order to do mechanical work. When one of the solenoids is activated electrically by the transmission control, the upshift solenoid or the downshift solenoid allow the flow of hydraulic oil to the rotary actuator. The hydraulic oil pressure turns the rotary actuator until the upshift solenoid or the downshift solenoid stops the hydraulic flow. The transmission control keeps the solenoid activated until the correct signal from the transmission switch is received.The rotary actuator is connected to the rotary selector spool and the transmission switch is connected to the rotary selector spool by a flexible coupling. When the rotary selector spool is in the correct position, the transmission control stops the current flow to the solenoid. The solenoid stops the oil pressure to the rotary actuator and the rotation of the rotary selector spool stops. This sequence is done for every upshift of the transmission or every downshift of the transmission. In the NEUTRAL position, the transmission control will keep the downshift solenoid activated.
