When the GPS location does not update in Product Link Web, certain steps can be taken before traveling to the customer site. Follow the steps from the "Off-Site Diagnostics" in order to help determine the fault before traveling to the customer site.Off-Site Diagnostics
Note: Some steps of the "Off-Site Diagnostics" sections are dependent on the customer being on-site.
Ensure that Product Link Web is receiving new data from the equipment after selecting the refresh button on the equipment page of Product Link Web.
Product Link Web is not receiving new data. Refer to System Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR3697, "ECM Does Not Communicate ".
Product Link Web is receiving data from the equipment, but the GPS location is not updating. Refer to Step 2.
Determine through the customer if the radio is compatible with the PLE640 system. The customer may know if the radio was supplied through Caterpillar.
If the customer is not using a Caterpillar approved radio, then it is possible that the customers GPS is not supported. A list of Caterpillar supported radios can be found in Special Instruction, REHS7339.
Do not operate or work on this equipment unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.
With the customer on site with the equipment, have the customer check the radio disable switch if equipped.
If the radio disable switch is enabled, refer to Step 4.
If the radio disable switch was disabled, then enable the radio disable switch and proceed to Step 4.
Request the location of the equipment. Ask the customer where the equipment is located and if the radios have a clear line of sight to the sky.
Do not operate or work on this equipment unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.
If the equipment was inside of a building or under/next to a large obstacle, have the customer attempt to move the equipment to a more open location with a clear line of sight to the sky.
If the equipment was in a clear line of sight to the sky, then refer to Special Instruction, REHS7339 for proper placement of the cellular radio.
If the cellular radio was in the proper location, refer to Step 5.
With the radio in the proper position, select the refresh button on the equipment page of Product Link Web.
If the Network Manager checks in, and the GPS location is updated, return the system to service.
If the equipment does not respond to the "Refresh", refer to Systems Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR3697, "Network Manager Does Not Communicate with Product Link Web".
If the equipment responds with new data to the "Refresh", but the GPS is still not updating, refer to "On-Site
