Schematic of the Left Travel Forward Solenoid This diagnostic code is associated with the Left Travel Forward Solenoid. The FMI 03 means that the machine ECM determined that the voltage is above normal.The possible causes of this failure are listed below:
The solenoid energizer circuit is shorted to +battery.
The back up switch (travel left) has failed.
The machine ECM has failed. This is unlikely.When this diagnostic code occurs, a warning is displayed on the message center and the machine ECM disables the circuit. Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID ENERGIZER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO +BATTERY.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the suspect solenoid from the machine harness.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the machine ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, measure the voltage between the contacts that are listed here:
Contact 1 (wire K944-YL) and frame ground
Contact 2 (wire K952-BR) and frame ground
Contact 1 (wire K944-YL) and contact 2 (wire K952-BR) Expected Result:Each voltage measurement is approximately 0.0 0.5 DCV.Results:
OK - Each voltage measurement is approximately 0.0 0.5 DCV. The voltage is correct. Proceed to test step2.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is greater than 0.0 0.5 DCV. The voltage is not correct. The machine harness is shorted to + battery. Proceed to test step3.Test Step 2. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC REMAINS.
Inspect the contacts of the harness connectors and clean the contacts.
Reconnect all machine harness connectors.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Acknowledge any active events That are displayed on the message center by pressing the OK key.
Operate the machine.
Check if the diagnostic code is displayed on the message center. The diagnostic information may also be viewed with the ET. Expected Result:The diagnostic code for the solenoid is NOT present on the message center.Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is NOT present. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial failure was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation. Stop.
NO - The diagnostic code has NOT been corrected. The machine ECM has failed. It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again.Repair: If the cause of the failure is not found, replace the machine ECM. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK THE TRAVEL LEFT BACK UP SWITCH.
Remove wire K944-YL from contact 1 of the travel left back up switch.
At the machine harness connector J2 of the machine control, measure the voltage between contact J2-62 (wire K944-YL) and frame ground. Expected Result:The voltage measures approximately 0.0 0.5 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage measures approximately 0.0 0.5 DCV. The voltage is correct. The travel left back up switch has failed.Repair: Replace the travel left back up switch. Stop.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is greater than 0.0 0.5 DCV. The voltage is not correct. The machine harness has failed.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. Stop.
