Remove & Install Generator
Identify all electrical wires and connectors for location purposes before disconnecting.1. Disconnect the wires and connectors of harness (1) at the engine. 2. Remove five mounting bolts (3) and remove guard (2). 3. Remove four screws (5) and remove screen guards (4). 4. Remove panel (6) and cover (7). 5. Put a piece of cardboard (8) between stator (9) and rotor assembly (10). This will prevent damage to the rotor assembly when the generator is disconnected from the flywheel housing. 6. Remove eight flywheel coupling bolts (13). Remove sixteen flywheel housing bolts (11). Do not remove balance weights and bolt (12). 7. Use the following steps to remove the generator:a. attach a lifting device (14) and tool (A) to the generatorb. remove four mount bolts (15).c. use tool (A) to raise the rear of the generator slightly higher than the front of the generator.d. lift the generator off the base (16) and remove generator. The weight of the generator is approximately 1133 kg (2500 lb). 8. Remove bolts (17) and plates (18). 9. Remove fan (19) and shims (20). The following steps are for the installation of the Generator. 10. Put fan (21) in position in the generator housing. Make sure holes (22) are toward the outside as shown.11. Install a 1/2" -10 NC x 4" long guide bolt (24) in the generator hub.12. Check the thickness of the plates that are installed over shims (23). The thickness of shims (23) and the plates must be 12.116 0.406 mm (.477 0.16 in). Add or subtract shims (23) to get the correct thickness. 13. Install plates (25) on the hub. Remove the guide bolt and install the bolts that hold the shims and plates in position. 14. Remove the cover from the flywheel housing and install tool (B).15. Install a 5/8" -11 NC x 4" long guide bolt in the flywheel. 16. Use the following steps to install the generator:a. attach a lifting device (26) and tool (A) to the generator. The weight of the generator is approximately 1133 kg (2500 lb).b. use tool (A) to raise the rear of the generator slightly higher than the front of the generator.c. guide the generator into position on the engine. Use tool (B), if necessary, to put the guide bolt in the flywheel housing in alignment with the holes in the plates and fan on the generator. d. remove the guide bolt and install eight coupling bolts (27).e. install sixteen flywheel housing bolts (28). b. install four sets of shims (30) an four bolts and nuts (29). Make sure the bolt heads (29) are down and the nuts (29) are positioned on top of the generator bracket as shown. 17. Remove cardboard (31) from between the rotor assembly and the stator. 18. Install panel (32) and cover (33). 19. Install screen guard (35) and guard (34). 20. Reconnect all wires an electrical connections (36) to the engine.
