Remove & Install Valve Seat Inserts
Start By:a. remove valves Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Use Tool (A) to remove the valve seat inserts from the cylinder head.2. Clean and remove any burns from the valve seat bores. For reconditioning information of the cylinder head, see Service Training Meeting guide, SESV1202. The following steps are for the installation of the valve and inserts. There are four inserts per cylinder, one of the inserts must be installed with the centerline of the swirl plate at an angle of 45 2 degrees as shown in illustration D21370. 3. Lower the temperature of the new valve seat inserts. Use Tool (B), and install the new valve seat inserts in the cylinder head.
