G379, G398, G399 Natural Gas EnginesDescription of Change: New actuator assemblies are available for use on the above engines. Multi-viscosity oil does not have an effect on the operation of the new actuator assemblies as it did on the former actuator assemblies. The use of multi-viscosity oil with the former actuator assemblies could cause fluctuations in engine speed. These fluctuations in engine speed would stop when the oil temperature was approximately 82° C (180° F).Adaptable As: The new 1W9841 Actuator Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 7N9871 Actuator Assembly. The new 1W9842 Actuator Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 7N9870 Actuator Assembly. This new 1W9841 Actuator Assembly can be used on D348, D349, 3408 and 3412 Industrial Engines and 3408 and 3412 Generator Set Engines. The new 1W9842 Actuator Assembly can be used on D379, D398, D399, 3406, and 3406B Industrial and Generator Set Engines and on G379, G398 and G399 Natural Gas Engines. The connectors used with the former actuator assembly must be removed from the wiring on the engine. The wires from the new actuator assembly can be connected to wiring on the engine with two of the wires splices in the 1P2305 Electrical Terminal Assortment Kit. If these splices are used, put a 5P6009 Heat Shrinkable Tube over the splices for insulation.
If desired, connectors from the 6V3000 Sure Seal Electrical Connector Kit can be installed on the actuator assembly and engine wiring. For instructions on the use of this kit, see Special Instruction, Form SMHS7531.
The colors of the wires on some of the new actuator assemblies may be different. Some actuator assemblies will have purple and red wires. The purple wire is positive (+) and the red wire is negative (-). Other actuator assemblies may have red and black wires. On these, the red wire is positive (+) and the black wire is negative (-).
After the actuator assembly and engine wires are connected, put a plastic strap around the actuator and the wires to hold the wiring in position.
