SAFETY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR FLASHING NEW IMPLEMENT, TRANSMISSION/CHASSIS, MONITOR, AND ALL WHEEL DRIVE SOFTWARE ON CERTAIN 120M, 12M, 140M, 160M, 14M, 16M, AND 24M MOTOR GRADERS

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
Installation of the New Electronic Control Module software is required on the products listed below. This new software addresses the following events.
1) A modification has been made to the steering software reducing the potential for delays in the activation of secondary steering. Those possible delays could result in a temporary loss of steering control during specific faults. This change is only applicable when machines are traveling at or below nine kilometers per hour.
2) During transmission calibration, the machine may experience a rocking type motion as the various clutches engage.
Any of the above events could result in personal injury or death.
In addition to the improvements mentioned above, the new software will reduce the time required for directional shifts. This improvement permits the Operator to perform directional shifting while in 4th reverse gear during certain conditions, by eliminating the need for additional down shifting before the actual shift and directional change occurs.
You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 18Apr2008 when scheduling this service.
